Where These Strange Liturgical Ideas Come From....

A recent liturgical conference in St. Louis featured Marchita Mauck, a "liturgical design consultant" and former advisor to the Bishops' Committee on Liturgy. Some of her ideas:

For Ash Wedensday

--Offering only one Mass having only services at other times (note: this is already done in many places).

--singing a Taize-style litany of prayer intentions gathered from the assembly in the weeks prior.

--A procession to a freestanding cross during the litany.

For Holy Week

--Instead of washing the feet of twelve men (per the rubrics), or even washing the feet of twelve people, washing the feet of anyone who desires throughout the afternoon and evening before Holy Thursday Mass.

--Holding the Palm Sunday Liturgy of the Word outdoors. (Imagine this being done in Wisconsin. Right,)

--Holding the Easter Vigil Liturgy of the Word in an open space outside of the church, with a twenty minute break between readings.

--Getting up to dance after the Red Sea account.

--Having the priest plunge the Easter Candle into the water while standing in the baptismal pool.

I wonder how long t will be until these crackpot concepts are mandated, and enforced with a ruthlessness undreamed of by the Inquisition in its prime......

Home Sick

Came down with a nasty sinus infection Easter evening. Tried going to work yesterday, but had to go straight home again. Feeling better today, but still not 100%. Will spend the day getting this blog into shape.
